Extracurricular Activity Projective Reconstruction #1 (A Domestic Scene) was inspired by a photo found in a high school yearbook. The original, a still from a school play, depicts two young men in a shabby apartment. From this image Kelley has re-staged a 'Domestic Scene':  the protagonists' unnerving, at times histrionic, relationship.

Extracurricular Activity Projective Reconstruction #1 (A Domestic Scene) features images, video and material objects referenced in multiple ways. The fictions constructed in the project are usually awkward, humorous, or absurd, building up the series of 30+ video narratives of abuse (social, sexual, domestic). Whether imagined or remembered, Kelley viewed these narratives of abuse as standardized experiences in American culture, stemming from the ordinary, lived individually but recognizable to all.

These standardized experiences of abuse are also part of Canadian culture, though are only just starting to be addressed publicly/nationally. By highlighting the violence that is conveniently removed from the narrative of our history, we can begin to move forward.
