Perestroika was a political movement for reformation within the Communist Party of the Soviet Union during the 1980s until 1991 widely associated with Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev and his glasnost (meaning "openness") policy reform. The results of this change became very ambivalent and powerfully conservative revolution paradoxically driven by the idea of freedom and civic liberties. This process resulted in the return of the private property relations, massive nationalist movement and the disintegration of the USSR.
